Today, IAF has successfully fired the BrahMos air version anti shipping missile from its frontline Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft off the Eastern Coast.

The test complete the tactical cruise missile triad for India, with the Brahmos now having the air, naval (both submarine and ship) and land based versions developed. With India joining the 34-nation Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) in June 2016, which "removed the caps" on the range of the missile developed jointly with Russian Federation, the armed forces are also testing an extended range BrahMos that can hit targets 450-km away.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also congratulated the team of defence scientists on the successful test-fire of the missile.

The armed forces now have a multi-platform, multi-mission cruise missile that can be launched from land, sea and air.

According to BrahMos Aerospace, "the formidable missile system once again proved its mettle to precisely hit enemy targets at much higher range than the current range of 290 km, with supersonic speed of 2.8 Mach'".
