Gabby Douglas opens up in Aly Raisman apology: I was abused, too

In her statement, Douglas also says she was abused by former USA Gymnastics physician Dr. Larry Nassar.

Douglas, however, responded by stating that women had a "responsibility to dress modestly and be classy".

In an interview with CBS' 60 Minutes that aired November 12, Raisman alleged she was one of the gymnasts who was sexually abused by Nassar.

Olympic champion Gabby Douglas revealed on Tuesday she was also abused by a former U.S. team doctor as she issued a new statement responding to allegations she "victim-shamed" team-mate Aly Raisman.

Douglas' allegation comes just days after she faced public backlash for appearing critical of the other accusers, particularly Raisman.

Simone Biles, the star of the 2016 Olympic gymnastics competition as a teammate of Douglas' and Raisman's, was quick to defend Raisman after Douglas' dismissive response, which she said shocked her to see in writing but didn't "surprise" her. "To every other individual that commented to or about me hatefully, I apologize that I let you down too".

"Larry is disgusting. Larry is a MONSTER not a doctor", she wrote.

Douglas in a separate tweet later apologized for "coming off like I don't stand alongside my teammates".

Larry Nassar, the former acclaimed USA Gymnastics team doctor who is accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women and girls, pleaded guilty to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in a MI court on Wednesday.

Douglas addressed the controversy in Tuesday's statement. The organization called Nassar's conduct " appalling and we are very sorry that any athlete has been harmed during her or his gymnastics career".

He has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges and is reportedly set to be jailed for 25 years under a deal agreed with prosecutors over 22 criminal sexual misconduct charges he is facing.
