We are starting to roll out artificial intelligence outside the United States to help identify when someone might be expressing thoughts of suicide, including on Facebook Live.
In a Facebook post this week, Mark Zuckerberg announced the company is deploying artificial intelligence software that will detect possible suicidal intent among users, which it says it built in consultation with suicide prevention groups. By using AI to flag worrisome posts to human moderators instead of waiting for user reports, Facebook can shave down how long it takes to send help. "We are committed to continuing to invest in pattern recognition technology to better serve our community".
"Over the last month, we've worked with first responders on over 100 wellness checks based on reports we received via our proactive detection efforts", VP of Product Management Guy Rosen wrote in a blog post.
Three terrorists killed in Jammu & Kashmir gunfight
Earlier in the day, the militants opened fire on a search party of the security forces, triggering an encounter. A clash between civilians and forces also erupted near the encounter site resulting in an injury to a civilian.
The technology will also monitor Facebook Live, a live-streaming video platform that has been used by some as a way to broadcast live violence or self-harm. For example, our reviewers can quickly identify which points within a video receive increased levels of comments, reactions and reports from people on Facebook. Previously, someone had to report a post or account that seemed suicidal before Facebook could act on it.
In addition to those tools, we're using automation so the team can more quickly access the appropriate first responders' contact information.
The world's largest social media network Facebook said on Monday, that it will expand its pattern recognition software.
"Some might say we should cut off the live stream, but what we've learned is cutting off the stream too early could remove the opportunity for that person to receive help", says Facebook researcher Jennifer Guadagno.
YouTube Reels explained: How the Snapchat Stories-like tool works
Bring fans backstage: Creators have been using Community posts to build anticipation for a new video or upcoming big production . This is another feature that will require beta testing, which YouTube is doing right now with a select number of creators.
Facebook is turning to artificial intelligence to detect if someone might be contemplating suicide. And while directing people to mental health resources is useful, Facebook is doing more than that.
Facebook created this tool with help from the Crisis Text Line, the National Eating Disorder Association and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
With the help of our partners and people's friends and family on Facebook, we hope we can continue to support those in need.
