Xiaomi opens third manufacturing facility in India dedicated to accessories


Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has expanded its product lineup with the launch of two powerbanks in India.

Jain said Xiaomi wants to make most parts for the power bank in India by one year from now, yet the genuine Lithium Polymer battery will even now be made in China. It is now tied up with Samsung as the biggest smartphone brand in the country. On double pressing the power button, it will enable slow charging for low devices such as Bluetooth headset and fitness band.

According to the brand, one of the most sold product in their portfolio is the power bank, and now due to the local manufacturing, the company should be able to sell these power banks at an affordable price tag without compromising on the quality. To achieve this feat they have partnered with Hipad Technology and built their third contract manufacturing unit in India. The Mi Power Bank 2i comes in 10000mAh and 20000mAh capacities. The new facility shall manufacture power banks and will employ 500 people initially.

Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said, "Xiaomi India has seen exponential growth in India and today it enjoys market leadership in the smartphone segment". The facility is located in Gurugram and is spread over 2.3lakh square feet. The 20000mAh Mi Power Bank 2i will retail for Rs. 1,499 which is also cheaper as compared to the current Mi Power Bank 2 of the same capacity that retails for Rs. 1,999. The device weighs 240 grams and measures 14.2 mm in thickness.

On the other hand, 10,000mAh-based Mi Power Bank 2i series too comes with similar structure, but smoother body having 180-degree ergonomic arc design with anodized Aluminum alloy case. The 20,000 mAh Mi Power Bank 2i is estimated at Rs 1,499 and this one also has support for Quick 3.0. They also include nine layers of circuit chip protection which also improves the charging efficiency. The higher capacity model features Quick Charge 3.0 technology for a faster charging experience.

The Mi Power Bank 2i will be "made in India at an exclusive accessories factory situated in Noida in partnership with Hipad" and will be available for buying from November 23 from 12PM from Mi.com/in and Xiaomi's own Mi Home stores. Moreover, the power bank is capable of resisting scratches.
