A half dozen Senate Democratic women called for Senator Al Franken to resign Tuesday as a sixth woman came forward to charge that the Minnesota Democrat had made an improper advance on her.

"He was between me and the door and he was coming at me to kiss me", she told Politico. When she tried to avoid him, she claims he told her: "It's my right as an entertainer".

"I was really startled by it and I just sort of booked it toward the door and he said, 'It's my right as an entertainer'".

She linked to a lengthy statement explaining that while she considers Senator Franken to be a friend, "we must not lose sight that this watershed moment is bigger than any one industry, any one party, or any one person". "I look forward to fully cooperating with the ongoing ethics committee investigation", Franken said in a statement, according to Politico.

Mr Franken, a former Saturday Night Live comedian, has been accused of groping and sexually harassing seven women, including a United States military veteran.

Franken insists that he doesn't remember meeting the five women who have accused him of groping them during photo ops, and said that he has a different recollection of a 2006 incident with Leeann Tweeden, a California radio-news anchor, who says Franken forcibly kissed her.

Two other women have alleged to media outlets that Franken groped them but have requested anonymity. "The women who have come forward are courageous and I believe them".

Hawaiian Senator Mazie Hirono joined the chorus of female lawmakers who condemned Franken and said he should remove himself from office.

Mr. Franken, a Democrat of Minnesota, has apologized for his behavior, but the senators said his admissions are not enough.

"It's clear to me that this has been a deeply harmful, persistent problem and a clear pattern over a long period of time", Murray added.
