Democrats have recruited an A-list candidate to run for US Senate in Tennessee.

He said in a video posted on his campaign website, "I have the right kind of experience and the actual track record that it will take to start working across party lines to fix the mess in Washington and bring common sense back to our government". He cruised to re-election in 2006, garnering more votes than any gubernatorial candidate in Tennessee history and sweeping all 95 counties against Republican opponent Jim Bryson.

Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke, a Democrat who earlier this year weighed running for U.S. Senate himself, today put his support behind former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen in the 2018 Democratic Senate primary.
