Broncos declare Paxton Lynch the starter for finale

The Broncos have nothing to play for this upcoming Sunday - except maybe draft positioning - which means that Joseph will get an extended look at the team's first-round pick from a year ago.

"I ain't playing. Might as well (release me)" Charles said Tuesday via the Denver Post. Charles didn't record any stats against the Colts and was inactive for last Sunday's game against Washington. That's the plan, to start Paxton this week.

Joseph said it doesn't matter if Lynch is facing backups, he still wants to get another look at the team's 2016 first-round draft pick who has only started three National Football League games. He has always had the ability to make "wow" throws and make plays with his legs, but we have seen absolutely zero consistency from him because the Broncos have never fully committed to him. Obviously, that's been the goal the last couple weeks.

Sanders is still "really sore", Joseph said. He left that game with an ankle injury and could be seen in frustration on the sideline. "Winning is our first priority, but any personal milestone like that, it's important for the player and for the football team".

The Chiefs don't need to win this weekend due to not being able to move up in the playoff standings, but losing to Paxton Lynch would still be kind of embarrassing. "He's going to be our quarterback, so we expect to win".

Head coach Vance Joseph and quarterback Paxton Lynch will be under the microscope, even going up against many of Kansas City's backups in this game, and will be expected to exceed expectations.

"That's the decision they're going with, so we're going to be behind that decision as a team and as an offense", receiver Jordan Taylor said.

Anderson said he wants to reach 1,000 yards because he wants to catch up to - or at least keep up with - Pittsburgh Steelers star running back Le'Veon Bell, the only fifth-year running back who has better career numbers than he does.

At this point, however, it's hard to have much faith in Lynch to lead the charge for the Broncos, as he's been very below average through two seasons.

You can't do that three years into a guy's career when you haven't had good quarterback play in the interim.

The Denver Broncos are set to wrap up what's been a disappointing season missing the playoffs for the second straight year.

The truth is, the Broncos have been missing that and much more all season. It's simple, guys-we want to see him play.
