The SC will soon set up a Constitution Bench next week to hear interim pleas seeking a stay on mandatory linking Aadhar with services and schemes to avail the services and benefits of government schemes.

This is because the government is complying with a February 6, 2017 order of the court in the Lok Niti Foundation case to tighten up the verification process of mobile phone users through Aadhaar linkage, on the pretext of state security, reports The Hindu (TH).

Senior advocate Shyam Divan, appearing for those who are opposed to Aadhaar scheme told the bench, also comprising justices A. M. Khanwilkar and D. Y. Chandrachud, that the central government should give an undertaking that no coercive steps would be taken against those fail to link their Aadhaar with various services.
