Dollar General Bowl 2017: Toledo vs

Share

In the final matchup of ESPN's Saturday bowl game triple-header, the Appalachian State Mountaineers and Toledo Rockets head to Mobile, Alabama's Ladd-Peebles Stadium for the 2017 Dollar General Bowl. Toledo has done a better job of creating turnovers this season, and the Rockets recovered a fumble and got an interception last game against Akron. For one, you are getting two conference champions.

The Mountaineers-who also defeated Toledo in last year's Camellia Bowl-have now emerged victorious in their last three bowl appearances. As for Appalachian State, this team has already beaten Toledo and will attempt to duplicate its performance past year to win another bowl game.

This bowl match-up pits two teams that are dominant on the offensive side of the ball. While he did not need to have a stellar game, Lamb finished his career as a three-time bowl champion and two-time conference champion, putting his name in the App State record books.

The Rockets (11-2) are averaging 39.0 points per game.

Appalachian State: QB Taylor Lamb. There was not much more the running game could have done to help the Mountaineers.

Toledo's Logan Woodside had a decent statistical game in that last year's meeting with just shy of 250 yards and two touchdowns. I think that this game will be extremely competitive throughout, but I think Toledo squeaks out a three point victory. He threw for 3,578 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions. Swanson leads the way 1,319 yards rushing and 14 TDs. His favorite target is all-conference receiver Diontae Johnson (1,257 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns), and he is also protected by a solid offensive line, led by senior all-conference performers in tackles Elijah Nkansah and Brant Weiss. The two teams this season want to repeat that stellar game.

The Warriors are banged up but getting healthier, and, by the way, have won 11 in a row. The Warriors are now the hottest team in the league, riding an 11-game winning streak.

Lamb has passed for 2,606 yards with 27 touchdowns and six interceptions this year. Toledo will try to make it tougher on the Mountaineers. Junior defensive end Okon Godwin had also had a strong showing filling in once again for senior Tee Sims who was announced for the season earlier in the season. "They've tackled well over the last month and haven't given up the big play". The running game was very effective. The Hurricanes swarmed Lamb last season.

"The defense has just been really solid", Satterfield said. "I don't think much has changed as far as how they play. That's what our (focus) was: Winning a lot of ballgames, winning conference championships, winning bowl championships, and here we are today trying to end it right in our senior year".

"You have to pay attention to what went right and what didn't go right", Candle said. For all the attention on the offenses, both teams have respectable defenses: San Diego State is 11th in the FBS in total defense and Army ranks 35th. This is a team that will give you everything they got for 60 minutes.
