The "Plus" model is expected to come with a larger 6.5-inch display.
It looks like the rumors surrounding Apple's 2018 iPhone plans are already beginning to swirl. Now with the all glass iPhone 8, Apple can only offer Space Grey, Silver and Gold, meanwhile the iPhone X is limited to Space Grey and Silver.
The folks over at Nikkei cite their own sources, which state that the new 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will sport a metal back and come in several colors.
Met Office upgrades snow warning to amber
According to Met Eireann there will be wintry showers right across the country with accumulations of snow over northern areas. There may be a light dusting of snow around the country, and it may stick in places in the north and northwest.
The same source revealed that Pegatron subsidiary Casetek could become the supplier of the metal backs for the 6.1-inch iPhone units.
Apple are also rumored to introduce a new iPhone Se next year, although this device is not expected to come with Face ID.
To make it even cheaper, the metal back would help, although wireless charging hangs in the balance since not many metal phones support the feature due to energy not being able to pass through the material like it can with glass.
The OLED display on the iPhone X has received an overwhelmingly positive response from consumers. Nikkei says Apple is reluctant to switch entirely to OLED in 2018 due to the fear of becoming over-reliant on Samsung.
Facebook targets pre-teens with chat app
The device can then be handed over to your child so he or she can start chatting with the family and friends you approve. Once their account is set up by a parent, kids can start a one-on-one or group video chat with parent-approved contacts.
Alongside this metal-backed iPhone, the source claims Apple is tentatively planning two new OLED handsets, one of which would be around 5.8 inches (like the iPhone X, which is now Apple's only OLED phone) and one of roughly 6.3 inches.
Nikkei's report corroborates with predictions from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
NIkkei's report does not mention the design of the phones' front panel. Other items that Kuo has talked about on the smartphones include all three having a full-screen edge-to-edge design and a TrueDepth camera like what is found in the iPhone X today. The 5.8-inch OLED iPhone would offer a pixel density of 458ppi, same as the current iPhone X. The 6.5-inch OLED iPhone would have a pixel density of 480-500ppi.
The low-end LCD device out of the three will be assembled by Pegatron and possibly Wistron.
