The former three-star prospect from Montgomery posted 68 total tackles with three interceptions, two touchdowns and three forced fumbles in his senior season that resulted in Carver going to the state semifinal games. He led the Tigers to double-digit upset wins over No. 1 teams Georgia and Alabama before a 28-7 loss to Georgia in the SEC title game. "We've got talented players. I feel good about where we're at".

Malzahn echoed those sentiments during his postgame media session, saying that he believes the team will repeat as SEC West Division champion and return to the conference title game one year from now, adding: "I'm happy at Auburn". The Tigers are the first-ever team to defeat two College Football Playoff No. 1-ranked teams in the same season.
