New Feature Uses Facial Recognition Technology

The feature would not immediately be available in Canada and the European Union, Facebook said.

"You're in control of your image on Facebook and can make choices such as whether to tag yourself, leave yourself untagged, or reach out to the person who posted the photo if you have concerns about it", said Joaquin Quiñonero Candela, director of applied machine learning at Facebook, in a blog post.

The optional alerts will notify you if someone in your broader network uploads a picture "that might include you", Facebook noted.

Nokia 8 Launched: Price in Pakistan, Specifications and Details
Overall Nokia 8 is a decent smartphone but lacks some features which would define a true high-end Android like Samsung S8. The FCC listing that we reported on Wednesday showed the presence of a 5-megapixel front camera sensor on the Nokia 9 .

"Powered by the same technology we've used to suggest friends you may want to tag in photos or videos, these new features help you find photos that you're not tagged in and help you detect when others might be attempting to use your image as their profile picture", Facebook explains.

Trump warned against firing Mueller, pardoning witnesses

There will also be a new on/off switch for all facial recognition features on Facebook. In 2015, Facebook's artificial intelligence team scored 83% facial recognition accuracy, even for photos where faces weren't clearly visible, by relying on cues such as a person's stance and body type.

And now they're using it to recognize you even if you're not tagged in the photos.

Facebook's head of privacy told Wired that the company sees the announcement as a "really empowering feature". "Two years ago, we launched an automatic alt-text tool, which describes photos to people with vision loss". Although this is the first official announcement that the company is moving more intensely towards facial technology - and perhaps farther away from previous forms of individual security as it skews more towards control over one's presence - facial recognition has always been a part of Facebook's platform. We can count the extra help for the visually impaired to that side of the facial recognition ledger, too. It will also work to prevent catfishing and revenge porn by alerting you when your face is in someone else's profile picture.
