Police say the 17-year-old shot himself after gunning down Scott Fricker, 48, and his wife Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, 43, in their home in North Virginia, US, on Friday.

Police claim the teenager snuck into the family's home on Thursday and when Scott Fricker told him to leave he shot both parents.

The teen, who can not be named for legal reasons, is hospital fighting for his life but was charged by Fairfax County Police on Saturday.

Janet Kuhn, Kuhn-Fricker's mother, told the Washington Post that her daughter told her over the summer that the boyfriend was very good at history and that her daughter asked, "Did you know that Jews are partly to blame for WWII?"

The police reportedly haven't discovered a motive but family members and friends blamed it on "the couple's struggle to keep hate out of their home", the Post reported, citing family members.

The quote was a reference to what was happening with her teenage daughter's boyfriend, Kuhn said.
