Tennessee coaching search: Mike Leach is reportedly the Vols' latest target

The Volunteers have been turned down by a handful of coaches so far for the position.

Tennessee is still searching for its new head coach, but there might be some welcome news for Volunteers fans on Thursday night. And according to Newy Scruggs, an NBC Sports radio host, Leach is "working on a deal" to become the next head coach at Tennessee.

Washington State University Head Football Coach Mike Leach has been offered the same position at the University of Tennessee, according to multiple sources. He also says a deal could be announced on Friday.

On Thursday evening, Leach reportedly told Dan Harralson, a Tennessee beat writer for Saturday Down South, that "I'm on my way (to Knoxville)". He even had the Cougars ranked as high as No. 8 this season. His 38-37 record over six seasons with Wazzu is certainly not impressive, but the Cougars have gone 26-12 over the last three seasons to become one of the better programs in the Pac-12.
