Vijay Rupani rakes oath as Gujarat CM


Vijay Rupani took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for a second term in a ceremony held in Gandhinagar on Tuesday. Governor Om Prakash Kohli administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy to all the ministers, including Mr Rupani and his deputy Mr Patel.

The chief ministers of 18 states where the BJP and its allies are in power and several union ministers also attended the ceremony.

On December 23, the State BJP leaders had met Governor O P Kohli and staked claim to form the government.

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) began its sixth term in Gujarat government with swearing in ceremony of its leader Vijay Rupani as Chief Minister, along with twenty other ministers in a glittering ceremony at Sachivalaya ground in Gandhi Nagar on Tuesday. Other attendees included Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh and former Gujarat CMs Keshubhai Patel and Shankersinh Vaghela. During this event, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party President Amit Shah was also present to observe the oath.

Senior ministers who have won the elections are likely to be retained.

Other BJP leaders who touched down at the Ahmedabad Airport earlier in the day to attend the oath ceremony extended their wishes to Rupani.

Rupani was elected from the Rajkot West constituency.

After his election, Rupani said although over 49 per cent vote share in the Assembly polls was a "huge achievement" for the BJP in Gujarat, the party would analyse its defeat in districts like Amreli, Gir-Somnath and Morbi, where it lost a majority of seats. However, the party's tally this time came down by 16 seats, from 115 seats in 2012 to 99 seats in 2017.
