Indian phone maker Micromax set to launch $30 Android Go phone


Micromax is all geared up for the launch of Bharat Go, which will be the first smartphone from the company to be based on Android Oreo Go. Google had announced Android Go during the opening keynote of the I/O developers conference in 2017. Micromax's Bharat series has been synonymous with affordable Android smartphones that aim to offer the best features at an entry-level price point.

Google's intentions to rule the emerging markets is clear with the Android Oreo (Go edition) launc h late past year.

Micromax Bharat Go is expected to cost under Rs 2000 when it hits the market by end of this month. However, we can expect it to be an entry-level smartphone as it runs the Android Oreo (Go edition).

The smartphone will be available by the end of January 2018. For the unintended, Google recently announced its ambitious Android Oreo Go edition. Launched as an optimised version of Android, Go edition works even with smartphones that have only 512MB of RAM and has access to a slew of apps designed for low-bandwidth. Android Go has its own suite of optimized apps for the same. An earlier report had claimed that the Micromax Bharat Go will be priced at Rs. 2,000.

The Android Go platform was launched to enable first-time smartphone users in the emerging markets to get a better quality Android experience.

While this is the software part, chipset makers like Qualcomm and MediaTek are also reportedly working on optimizing their processors for Android Go.
