Quake of 7.6 magnitude strikes off Central America: USGS

A major natural disaster, one of the most severe in the past 100 years, struck off the coast of Honduras late Tuesday night.

The singer felt the effects of the 7.6 magnitude natural disaster that struck off the coast of Honduras on Tuesday night (Jan. 9), which shook parts of the Cayman and Caribbean Islands and Cancun. Tsunami warnings were put into effect after the quake struck, but were ultimately canceled.

The tremor occurred in the sea between the island of Cuba and the coasts of Honduras and Belize, according to maps published by USGS.

Tsunami sirens were heard going off along the coast of Belize shortly after the magnitude 7.6 quake hit northeast of Honduras.

Tsunami warnings were issued for the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, the Caribbean islands, Central America, and Mexico. The agency also warned of possible waves up to 1 meter (3 feet) above tide level.

Meanwhile, the country's emergency services placed three of the country's departments on a 12-hour tsunami alert: Gracias a Dios, Colon Atlantida and Islas de la Bahia.

They were also attacked following the handling of the Eniola Aluko controversy with ex-England women's coach, Mark Sampson. It's named after Dan Rooney, former owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and former chairman of the NFL's diversity committee.

The reports that the 7.6 magnitude makes this one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit the Caribbean in modern day history.

The quake was very shallow, at only 6.2 miles (10 km), which would have amplified its effect. There were no early reports of fatalities or serious damage.
