The caller allegedly led officers to believe the incident occurred in the 2300 block of 17b Street S.W. Tactical unit and patrol officers attended the home and evacuated nearby units. Calgary police issued warrants against Barriss for public mischief, fraud and mischief.

"The female exited her residence and officers confirmed that the initial report of a shooting and hostage scenario was false".

More than 90 minutes after the initial report, 84 firefighters and 26 units were still on the scene. A NY fire department statement said the injuries sustained at the blazer were not life threatening.

The CPS Cyber/Forensics Unit took over the case once the situation was resolved and identified a suspect who'd contacted the victim earlier that day.

According to NBC News, Barriss had previously served 32 months in the Los Angeles County Jail for making a false reporting of a bomb to an agency and maliciously reporting a false bombing.

The call to Wichita emergency dispatchers recounted similar circumstances. It's alleged Barriss dispatched them to that man's address in another alleged swatting call. Police shot Finch when the unarmed man came to his door.

Siegenthaler said it's unlikely that Barriss will be extradited to Canada, but that he would be arrested if he entered the country. She sought a restraining order in 2015 from a California court, alleging Barriss made "constant threats to beat my face bloody".

Siegenthaler said swatting calls can put the public and officers at risk and tie up police resources.
