The confirmed but figureless pay gap was revealed by show producers Suzanne Mackie and Andy Harries during a discussion about "The Crown" at the INTV Conference in Jerusalem, In Style magazine reported. Mackie said the gap would be closed with the forthcoming third series, saying "going forward, no one gets paid more than the queen".
Claire Foy was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith in Netflix drama "The Crown", despite having more screen time. "However, Hollywood and London may have to reassess whether there should be some kind of SAG pay scale". While it has not yet been disclosed exactly how much Smith was paid, Foy earned $40,000 per episode of The Crown.
Watch the Trailer for 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald'
This last part really makes me happy as I really enjoyed his role in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them . David Yates is directing Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald , from a screenplay by J.K.
Yes, Matt Smith's tenure as the Doctor earned worldwide fanfare. And while she was perhaps not as well-known, she had starred in popular and respected series before The Crown, including BBC's Little Dorritt. She was also nominated for an Emmy for her season one performance.
The producers claim that rather than a gender issue, the pay gap came as Claire was an unknown actress when she accepted the lead role, whereas 35-year-old Matt had achieved global success for starring as the titular character in the long running sci-fi hit "Doctor Who" from 2009 to 2013. Smith played a pivotal role as Prince Philip, but Foy as Queen Elizabeth was the main focus of the series.
Saints, Drew Brees agree to $50M deal
All of that money would have hit this year's salary cap if Brees hadn't signed a new deal by March 14. Brett Favre also is ahead of Brees - for now - with 71, 838 yards and 508 TDs passing.
No salaries have been revealed but Variety reported that Foy's was earning $40,000 (€32,000) an episode previous year. So it makes the decision to pay her less than Matt likely all the more confusing.
Fans of the show have taken to social media to vent their disappointment over the revelation since news broke.
