Russia Says it Test-Fired a Hypersonic Missile

Putin unveiled the Kinzhal missile earlier in March as one in a new line of nuclear weaponry that could overcome US defense systems.

The missile, dubbed Kinzhal ("Dagger"), was sacked by a Mig-31 fighter jet and hit its designated target at an undisclosed test range, the ministry said in a statement Sunday.

The Kinzhal is said to travel at 10 times the speed of sound and have a range of 2,000km (1,200 miles).

Disappointingly, however, this missile doesn't appear to be invincible. It's like when you get a haircut and tell the barber "that's ideal that, thanks mate" even though you are absolutely devastated by it and you just want to go home and put on a hat and cry a bit.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the southern military district has had possession of the missile since the beginning of December.

"Crews of the air system on the testing air alert sorties completed over 250 flights year-to-date under the combat training plan. The attempt at curbing Russian Federation has failed", Putin said.

According to TASS news release, the system has no counterparts across the globe owing to high flight performance characteristic of the MiG-31 fighter jet and the hypersonic missile with a small radar signature and high maneuverability.

Travel warning issued for Playa del Carmen due to security threat
USA citizens are warned not to travel to five Mexican states including Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, and Tamaulipas. It was just two weeks ago an explosion rocked the ferry from Playa del Carmen, injuring 25 people, including two Americans.

Kinzhal air system crews have conducted hundreds of tests emulating attacks made from a position of defense.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said that, with Russia's presidential election approaching, Putin "was playing to the [domestic] audience, certainly". "They do not impact any need on our side for a change in our deterrence posture".

The so-called "Kinzhal" missile was set off in the southwestern part of the country using a MiG-31 aircraft, Russia's defense ministry said, according to an Agence France-Presse report on Sunday.
