Amazon chief Jeff Bezos has boasted that the number of paying subscribers for premium next day delivery service Prime has now surpassed 100 million for the first time, breaking his traditional coyness when discussing stats and sales figures. The new high in subscriptions at Prime, launched 13 year ago, was among milestones from 2017 shared by Bezos in the letter, a copy of which was filed with United States securities regulators. That means that the average Prime member buys fifty items per year, roughly one a week, which by any retailer's standards is a pretty damn good repeat purchase rate.
Amazon has also "begun the technical work" to bring Prime benefits to Whole Foods shoppers.

Castro era to end in Cuba as Raul set to step down
Worldwide observers and Cubans alike will be scrutinizing every move he makes after he officially takes office on Thursday. Castro became president in 2008 when his brother, Fidel Castro , formally handed over power as his health deteriorated.
With Prime memberships priced at $99, Amazon clearly has a steady and growing stream of income coming in. This is the first time, Amazon has come up with clear statics.
Bezos also talked about the high standards and corporate culture at Amazon. For instance, Amazon has and offers a highly successful cloud computing service, electronics (like the aforementioned smart speakers and tablets), groceries (both in-store and delivery) and, of course, video streaming, among many others.
Overall in 2017, Amazon shipped more than 5 billion items via Prime, its program that offers unlimited free two-day shipping on over 100 million different items in the US along with other perks (including access to the original and licensed TV shows and movies on Prime Video).
Speaking of other milestones globally, Bezos stated that Amazon Web Services is now a $20 billion revenue run rate business, with active users increasing more than 250 percent in the past year.

The decision to leave Tottenham for Manchester City has been rewarded with EFL Cup and Premier League medals for Walker. The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) has announced its team of the year for 2017/2018 season.
Additionally, Amazon said that there are now more than 30,000 skills for its Alexa voice platform from outside developers.
The sheer size of that marketplace, though, makes it impossible for Amazon to police every product that goes up for sale. He also said that "We think that the monthly membership option appeals to the later Prime adopters, with a smaller, potentially temporary commitment, that ultimately yields a long-term commitment".
"So, the four elements of high standards as we see it: they are teachable, they are domain-specific, you must recognize them, and you must explicitly coach realistic scope".
Tens of millions of Amazon hardware was sold in 2017.
