The data center will eventually employ as many as 100 people including software technicians and system administrators.

The data center will be built on 350 acres of land off County Road 96 in Bridgeport.

About 100 highly skilled technical workers will be hired to work at the site. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said. "We're proud that Alabama is playing an important role in Google's future growth, and we look forward to seeing this data center operation help power that growth".

Google is building its Bridgeport facility - and another similar data center on another former TVA site in Clarksville, Tenn. - to help meet growing demand in the Southeast for cloud-based services, searches and video streaming.

Crews have already begun construction, and Bridgeport Mayor David Hughes says the town is already seeing an economic boom. This arrangement, and others like it throughout the country, help companies and utilities meet their renewable energy goals.
