Company hopes to open luxury hotel in space

The hotel will accommodate up to four travellers and two crew members at a time, racing them around the planet at high speeds for 12 days, the company said in a news release.

CEO Frank Bunger told Forbes that the $9.5 million price tag for stays on Aurora Station are around half of what individuals have paid for trips to the International Space Station, which clocks in at a whopping $20 million to $40 million.

If plans go well, officials expect to begin accommodating guests on the Aurora Station by 2022. The company will accept $80,000 (approximately Rs. 52 lakh) per person deposits for a spot on its first wait list. Aurora Station is the first fully modular space station and luxury space hotel. "The goal when we started the company was to create that innovation to make simplicity possible and by making simplicity possible, we drive a tremendous amount of cost out of it". Because the station will orbit Earth every 90 minutes, guests will see a total of 16 sunrises and sunsets per 24 hours.

"Lastly, when the guests return home to Earth, we're going to treat them to a hero's welcome".

Before taking off, guests are required to complete a three-month training course online and at the Orion Span facility in Houston.

The hotel named Aurora Station will be provided on first come first serve basis. Bunger said the Aurora Station has been created to "grow and respond" to market needs. "We will offer full charters to space agencies who are looking to achieve human spaceflight in orbit for a fraction of the cost - and only pay for what they use. We will support zero gravity research, as well as in space manufacturing", said Bunger. Our architecture is such that we can easily add capacity, enabling us to grow with market demand like a city growing skyward on Earth.
