Cynthia Nixon Snares Working Families Party Endorsement

The New York Working Families Party voted to endorse Nixon with more than 91% of the vote. Though technically a separate party, it tends to endorse and support progressive candidates from the major parties. But Cuomo said Friday he would not seek its backing this year. "Eighty percent of the New Yorkers who are arrested for marijuana are black or Latino, despite the fact that whites and people of color use marijuana at roughly the same rates". The issue is one of the biggest differences between herself and her Democratic opponent incumbent New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Executive director, Bill Lipton, says many in the party blame Cuomo for the continued control of the State Senate by Republicans, saying Cuomo didn't do enough to help Democrats win seats and mend differences. In a recent video she posted, Nixon explained: "I believe it is time for NY to follow the lead of eight other states and D.C., and legalize recreational marijuana".

Nixon is mounting a progressive challenge against Cuomo. There were also published reports that said the governor urged the unions to withdraw funding from community groups within the Working Families Party.

Netanyahu cautions Iran after Syria strikes
Netanyahu also again warned over Iran's presence in Syria after previously pledging not to allow the country to entrench itself militarily next door. "Syria continues to carry out murderous actions and to be a base for these and other actions, including by Iran, that puts its territory, forces and leadership in danger", the terse statement said.

Nixon, the Sex and the City star, declined to commit to run her campaign through November should she lose the Democratic primary.

Cuomo campaign spokeswoman Abbey Fashouer on Saturday said Cuomo's "record of progressive accomplishment is unmatched".
