"Ten days ago, President Trump was saying the United States of America had a duty to disengage from Syria", Macron said during a two-hour grilling on French television, broadcast days after his government joined the US and Britain in launching strikes against alleged Syrian regime chemical weapons facilities.
Macron's tough statement also contrasted with remarks by major European partners.
The United States, Britain and France said they only hit Syria's chemical weapons capabilities and the strikes were not aimed at toppling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad or intervening in the civil war.
Around the same time as he was musing about power to his friend Philippe Besson after his election victory last May, Macron also laid out a clear policy on using military force in Syria.
Mr. Trump described a very specific type of target that the USA would go after, which are Syria's chemical weapon capabilities.
Unclear why 8-year-old slashed students
