Kevin Durant to opt out, redo deal with Warriors

The All-Star has chose to opt-out of his current contract of $26 million to restructure a new deal with the Warriors, league sources told ESPN.

It shook out with the Spurs landing the No. 7 seed, setting up a rematch of last year's Western Conference Finals - Warriors-Spurs - in the first round.

Durant last season added 2017 NBA Finals MVP to his resume, which includes 2007-08 Rookie of the Year, 2013-14 MVP, nine All-Star nods and seven All-NBA selections. "There are people who will say, 'I would rather play the Warriors right now in the first round than the Thunder or the Jazz.' Right now. Without him doing that it would have been a different roster, and clearly to me, a roster that wasn't as good as the one we have right now", he said.

"Financially, obviously, what I wanted to do previous year, it made sense", Durant told the Athletic in March.

Durant is eligible to sign a four-year max contract, which would pay him $158 million. I'm sure here soon I'll want to sign a long-term deal just to feel stable. Heck, he took a $1.5 million pay cut from the season before, which is something you don't see too often from a star player in his prime.
