The New York Knicks fired head coach Jeff Hornacek, multiple sources confirmed to The Washington Post. Van Gundy's run was the Knicks' most recent period of sustained success; NY has won just one playoff series since Van Gundy left early in the 2000-01 season. The Knicks now have a chance to try their luck in the free market with a brand new head coach and try to end their playoff drought. While he's spent his time working as an analyst, rumors of him clashing with management in Oakland seems to be a reason why he hasn't been able to secure another head coaching job in the National Basketball Association.
Jackson's only three seasons of coaching experience came with the Warriors, who he guided from a 23-43 record in his first year to a 51-31 record in his third year. The combination hindered the Knicks all season, as NY finished 2016-17 ranked 18th in offensive rating.
Spurs hope to delay City's title
Young full-back Walker-Peters is recovering from a hamstring problem, while midfielder Harry Winks is undergoing rehab in Qatar. City could wrap up the title if they beat Spurs and United lose at home to bottom-side West Bromwich Albion.
Fizdale was sacked by the Grizzlies early this season after a strong opening campaign in 16-17.
He also has connections to the Knicks, having been drafted by them in 1987 and playing for them from 1987-1992 and 2001-2002. That has been invaluable experience for him, and he, along with David Fizdale, David Blatt, and Mark Jackson, are candidates for the Knicks job.
