PM arrives in Sweden on two-day visit


Two documents were agreed to between India and Sweden following the delegation-level talks - Innovation Partnership and Joint Action Plan - to maximise bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the people.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a "productive exchange" of views on bilateral and regional issues with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven and called on Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf. Modi will arrive in Stockholm on April 16 in the afternoon in what will be the first visit of a Prime Minister from India to Sweden in 30 years since Rajiv Gandhi's visit in 1988.

In his departure statement prior to his visit, Mr Modi said, he is visiting Sweden and the United Kingdom for bilateral meetings and for the India-Nordic Summit and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting during 17th to 20th of this month.

But Trump is unhappy about trade between the two countries, which he has described as "not fair" and "not open". Abe will want to reinforce the idea that maximum pressure must continue until we get complete denuclearization.

According to officials, the two leaders discussed ways to deepen trade, business and people-to-people ties between India and Sweden.

The two sides also agreed to exchange know-how and explore cooperation in the areas of electro-mobility as well as renewable fuels. Indian Ambassador to Finland Vani Rao confirmed that issues related to global security would be discussed at the India-Nordic Summit. "As a result, we have agreed on an innovation partnership and a joint action plan", he said. He will be on 2-day visit to Sweden to take part in India-Nordic Summit.

"We have chose to strengthen relations as far as cyber security is concerned", the prime minister announced.

India and Sweden will also jointly organise the India-Nordic Summit in Stockholm.

"I am very pleased to announce that the Swedish government will kick start our Innovation Partnership by providing up to 50 million Swedish kronor (Over $59 million) for innovation cooperation with India in the field of smart cities and sustainability", Lofven said. Leaders exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation across several sectors. On Monday, Lofven received Modi at the airport in Stockholm as a special gesture.
