School district arms teachers with baseball bats

In a response to recent school shootings across the country the Millcreek School District has equipped 500 of its teachers with the miniature baseball bats.

A school district on Lake Erie in Pennsylvania is arming teachers. with tiny bats.

"It's more about the educational piece and that awareness - teaching our kids to be better prepared for these situations", Hall said, ABC News reported.

The district bought 600 bats for about $1,800, Hall told the Times-News.

"The bats are more symbolic than anything", said Superintendent William Hall.

The deadly school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Fla., drove Millcreek to institute other safety measures aside from the bats.

Starting in the 2018-19 school year, the Washougal School District plans to swap its three-hour early release on Wednesdays with a 40-minute early release and additional 70 hours of annual specialized instruction in visual arts, physical education and media technology.

In March, the Blue Mountain School District in Pennsylvania gave students and teachers buckets of rocks to use in the event of an armed intrusion.

"I had the opportunity to meet my representative, and I was highly disappointed in that meeting and the lack of support I felt as a public educator", said Youngberg, who is running as a Democrat for House District 80, the seat now held by Republican Rep. Mike Ritze, just south of Tulsa.

"We weren't at the time seriously looking at that, but we were wanting to gauge how our community felt about having a non-SRO gun presence", Hall said.
