Taxpayers get extra day to file

Tax filers have little longer to get their paperwork in to the Internal Revenue Service.

A computer glitch at the IRS knocked offline the agency's ability to process many tax returns filed electronically, a stunning breakdown that left agency officials flummoxed and millions of Americans bewildered.

To file an extension, all you have to do is go to the IRS website, download the form 4868, but it's important to note that submitting an extension gives you more time to file your return, not pay your taxes. Both options provide taxpayers with answers to specific questions about tax returns and the department's electronic filing, or e-filing, options.

And despite the influx of activity at the post offices, Jarrett reckons it's hard to say whether more people are choosing to file online or by mail.

But it was Betts - who ended up with three homers in the game- and Red Sox who stole the show. But it appears to be little more than a bump in the road.

Kautter said the agency was struggling to accept returns from the widely used tax software program TurboTax and the massive tax preparation company H&R Block.

Taxpayers can still file for the routine six-month extension if they need it, but if they owe the federal government, they still have to pay the funds.

The normal April 15 deadline was extended to April 16 this year because of a District of Columbia holiday on Monday. But an extension to file is not an extension to pay.

Plenty of Americans cut it close to the deadline: According to the IRS, last year, five million tax returns were sent in on the last day of filing season.

Hezbollah condemned the air strikes in Syria, where the Iran-backed Lebanese group backs the Assad regime. The Russians say 71 missiles were shot down by Syrian systems.

He was also reported as saying that taxpayers would not be penalized because of the service's technical problems. It's also the deadline for business owners and freelancers to pay their estimated taxes for the first quarter of 2018.

Former IRS Commissioner John Koskinen warned a year ago of a possible system failure, partly because of underfunding of the agency.

"On my way over here this morning, I was told that a number of IRS systems are unavailable at the moment". "We are working to resolve the issue and taxpayers should continue to file as they normally would", he said.

If you still haven't filed your taxes yet, you may have just caught a break! The agency said taxpayers don't need to do anything to receive the extra day.

Syrians Claim Air Defense Systems Set Off by US-Israeli Cyber Attack
Israel has struck Syrian military targets before and was blamed for strikes earlier this month on the T4 air base in Homs. Syrian state media blamed the unexpected malfunction on a "joint electronic attack" the USA and Israel perpetuated.

Acting Commissioner David Kautter acknowledged the issue Tuesday morning during a House Oversight Committee hearing.
