26th Annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive happening Saturday

You have a chance to help Harvest Hope Food Bank and the U-S Postal Service "Stamp" out hunger.

Postal carriers in the north country will be delivering Saturday, but they also will be picking up food.

Hopefully there are non-perishable food items in your pantry that you can afford to donate. Food collected during Saturday's drive will be delivered to local community churches, food banks and food pantries for distribution.

Last year, Stamp Out collected 200,000 pounds in the Central Valley - 75,000 of which was collected in Fresno alone.

May 12th is national "Stamp Out Hunger" day. "Its a great opportunity and gratifying to give back to people who are less fortunate".

If you're interested in helping, the food bank is looking for extra volunteers to reach their goal, which is around 100,000 pounds of food. The food drive has become the nation's largest one-day campaign to collect food for distribution to needy families.

Recommended items include pasta, oatmeal, canola oil, peanut butter and canned goods including beans, fruit, vegetables, soup, tuna in water, meat and sauce.
