Dementia struggle for Barbara Windsor

Former EastEnders star Barbara's husband Scott Mitchell revealed her health diagnosis in an interview with The Sun on Thursday, explaining that although she was diagnosed back in 2014, her condition has worsened in the last few months.

Following the news that the national treasure has Alzheimer's, it's now been reported that husband Scott Mitchell asked for her Walford matriarch to be killed off.

'And she's thrilled to bits there has been such a positive response from the media and from the public'.

Moore said she had known of the disease for about two to three years, as did many other of Dame Barbara's friends, including David Walliams and Christopher Biggins.

The star, famous for her roles in nine Carry On films and for playing pub landlord Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders, was given the diagnosis in 2014.

"But as soon as we leave the house, I live in constant terror that she's going to say something, or suddenly have a panic attack, or get photographed when she's not looking right".

Jane added that Scott made the decision to make the announcement because he and Barbara still wanted to go out in public. I hope by talking openly it will make it easier for others to talk about this terrible disease.

A small circle of friends who had begun to notice her occasional confusion were told shortly after the diagnosis, he said.

Dame Barbara had suffered health issues before, including multiple abortions and a nervous breakdown following the collapse of her first marriage to the underworld figure Ronnie Knight, who was eventually jailed for seven years.

"I don't want it to come across that she's sitting there unable to communicate, because she's not".

We're all rooting for you, Babs!'

Barbara Windsor has battled the disease for four years.

"Ironically, I think it's some of the best work she ever did".

She underwent a series of mental agility tests, a brain scan and a lumbar puncture, before the couple's worst fears were confirmed.
