The tweet thread appeared to refer to something Musk said during a community meeting on Thursday in Los Angeles, where he discussed the progress The Boring Company was making in its mission to build a network of transportation tunnels under the city.
Earlier in the evening Musk retweeted an LA Metro tweet that said it's coordinating with The Boring Company on its test and said the two will be "partners" going forward. Tunnels from Los Angeles to San Francisco could be done in a few weeks, Boring Company executive Steve Davis said.
The skates are created to carry either single passenger vehicles or bus-like carriages that can seat between eight and 16 people.
The idea is for the vehicles to offer a service somewhere between riding a subway and traveling in a private auto - and for just $1 (R12.50), passengers could reach downtown LA from its worldwide airport in under 10 minutes.
PayPal snaps up iZettle in $2.2bn deal
Morgan Securities plc is acting as sole financial adviser to iZettle, while Gernandt & Danielsson is acting as its legal adviser. The company said it expects to reach profitability by the year 2020.
The technology billionaire behind Tesla and SpaceX promised on Thursday the high-speed rail system of tunnels would cost passengers just $1 (74 pence) per trip and would be constructed at a "cost that's not crazy".
In October 2017, Musk shared the first image of the Boring Company's test tunnel under SpaceX's headquarters.
The Boring Company's angle has always been to make tunnel digging more efficient, and Musk has purchased a second-hand machine for his company to study, which has been christened "Godot". "Accelerate over 300 miles per hour and break and that's in a vacuum tunnel", Musk said.
Once operational, pedestrians and cyclists will be given priority to ride in its pods, for less than the price of a bus ticket, Musk says.
Simon Yates stretches Giro d'Italia advantage
Tom is a bit more of a steady climber, he is super hard to drop but these are the stages where I can gain some time. Yates stretched his advantage to 47 seconds over Dumoulin and 1:04 ahead of Thibaut Pinot, who is third overall.
It also comes as Musk wrestles with production problems for the rollout of his highly anticipated Model 3 sedan at Tesla, with some investors concerned his overlapping leadership roles at Boring and his rocket-building firm SpaceX has him spread too thin.
Boring's effort to win fast-track city approval of a 2.7-mile-long tunnel beneath a busy stretch of Los Angeles' West Side has drawn a court challenge from two neighborhood organizations. If the Boring Company wins all the regulatory go-aheads that are required, Musk's past record of hard-to-imagine achievements may be a big reason why.
The company assured citizens that if the top soil moves by as little as half an inch (one cm), work will stop immediately.
