Salmonella outbreak leads to around a dozen more people falling sick


Last month "Rose acre farms" recalled more than 200-million eggs distributed from its North Carolina facility.

The CDC reports that 35 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Braenderup have been reported from 9 states: Colorado (1), Florida (2), New Jersey (1), NY (8), North Carolina (5), Pennsylvania (6), SC (3), Virginia (8), and West Virginia (1).

The affected eggs were produced in a North Carolina facility owned by Indiana's Rose Acre Farms. The eggs were circulated having brand names such as Nelms, Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Great Value, Food Lion, Glenview, Sunups and Publix.

A salmonella outbreak linked to tainted eggs has sickened at least 35 people in nine states. In most cases, food poisoning caused by Salmonella bacteria-also called salmonellosis-isn't life threatening. Illnesses have been reported in all of the states, the majority of which were from NY and Virginia, the CDC said.

It is not usually life-threatening, except in children and the elderly who have weaker immune systems.

They had a best by date of April 2 and April 3, according to the CDC.

According to the FDA, the affected eggs are from plant number P-1065 with the Julian date range of 011 through date of 102 printed on either the side portion or the principal side of the carton or package. "Sixteen reported eating various egg dishes at different restaurants", said the DCD statement.

The FDA has of course posted the full list of recalled products and warns that, if it turns out you still have one of the possibly unsafe cartons, you should chuck them in the trash or return them for a refund. More than 1 million illnesses were reported.

The New Jersey case was reported in the first announcement about the outbreak on April 16.
