Storms slam US Northeast, snarling transport and causing power outages

The storms downed scores of trees and power lines.

There were almost 50 reports of hail in states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and CT, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. A man living near Candlewood Lake was killed when a tree came down right on top of him.
