Trees fall as dust storm engulf Delhi-NCR region

IMD Issues Warning For New Delhi And Haryana:- With summer temperatures bringing the heat all over and dust storms creating a havoc across UP and Rajasthan, thunderstorms are now creating tough times across North India. Trees were uprooted in parts of Delhi. The Delhi Traffic Police urged people to take precautions while commuting and the Delhi Metro said it was on alert for heavy rain.

The revenue department of the government has already issued directions to all district officers and said water and power utilities would also keep restoration teams ready.

Dust storms hit Chandigarh and parts of Punjab and Haryana this evening with many residents preferring to stay indoors in view of the IMD's forecast of thunderstorm and squall tomorrow in several parts of north India.

Several parts of these states could witness thunderstorm and squall with winds gusting up to 50-70 kilometers per hour, the alert said.

"Thunderstorm with squall conditions are expected with wind speeds reaching 50-70 km/hr in some places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand". It also advised the morning-shift schools to avoid outdoor activities, since the weather department has predicted that the storm is likely to peak in the capital by 5.30pm. The advisory said commuters should "keep themselves updated about the weather conditions and plan their journey accordingly". If the winds were stronger, metro services would be suspended, he said.
