United States names suspect in Vault 7 leaks, but unable to file charges

The leak, which was referred to as "Vault 7", was one of the largest in USA history, but in August, prosecutors separately charged Schulte with possession of child pornography - agents apparently found 10,000 images on a server he built as a business in 2009 while at university in Austin, Texas.

Assistant Federal Defender Sabrina Shroff commented Tuesday about 29-year-old Joshua Adam Schulte after a prosecutor revealed last week that the government hoped a grand jury would return charges in about 45 days.

The FBI said they removed NSA and Central Intelligence Agency paperwork from Schulte's home, as well as a personal computer, tablet, phone and other electronics. And I would disagree with the defense counsel's characterization that those search warrants haven't yielded anything that is consistent with his involvement in that disclosure.

According to his family and his LinkedIn page, Mr. Schulte did an internship at the National Security Agency while working on a bachelor's degree in computer engineering.

In lieu of evidence tying Schulte to Vault 7, Schultz is now being held on child pornography charges, for which he has pleaded not guilty.

General VK Singh makes surprise visit to North Korea
North Korea stated that the U.S. was considering its intention of denuclearising the Korean peninsula as a sign of weakness. This is the first visit by a senior Indian official to North Korea since 1998.

In other hearings in Schulte's case, prosecutors have alleged that he used Tor at his NY apartment, but they have provided no evidence that he did so to disclose classified information.

The implication of the Tor claims is that Schulte would only have used it if he had something to hide.

"I am just scared to death", said Roger Schulte, Mr. Schulte's father, who lives in Lubbock, Tex. "Virginia never came to get him".

The NYT quoted Nicholas Weaver, a researcher at the International Computer Science Institute in California, as saying that WikiLeaks had magnified the danger posed by the Vault 7 leaks and that the tools were aimed only at small groups of high-value targets.

The New York Times reported a prime suspect had already been identified by USA authorities.

But at Schulte's January detention hearing, Kaplan signaled his and his client's frustration with the investigation.

"As part of their investigation, they obtained numerous search warrants for Mr. Schulte's phone, for his computers, and other items, in order to establish the connection between Mr. Schulte and the WikiLeaks leak".

At the same hearing, prosecutors argued that Schulte should be returned to custody because federal monitoring showed his Gmail account had been accessed.

The government is also investigating whether Schulte used the Tor network to transmit classified data. Many media companies have set up systems that use Tor, to enable people to more safely send tips or share information without being traced. "In fact, our investigation is ongoing", Laroche said.

But a Wednesday online search of Loudoun County Circuit Court records did not turn up any active case, at least yet, that names Schulte.
