Bystander kills gunman who wounded 2 at Walmart store

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office, Olympia and Lacey police also responded to the scene on Sunday. Chaos ensued as people ran from the store, and the gunman followed, with more shots fired outside.

Police have identified a 44-year-old man from McCleary, Washington, as the suspect who was shot and killed after a string of carjackings and a shooting Sunday at a Walmart store in Tumwater.

The incident at the Walmart in Tumwater happened about 5 p.m. One of the two shot the suspect, killing him, police said. When officers arrived there, they found a 16-year-old girl who had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The gunman then circled around to the other side of the auto, and that's when his father made a last-ditch effort to leave and stomped on the gas pedal.

Once at the store, the suspect went inside, where he "fired at a locked ammunition display case, removed some ammunition, and exited the store", says the news release.

Kailani Bailey, 19, told the Olympian that she was shopping inside the Walmart when a tall man in a grey t-shirt and jeans ran into the building, pushing past people and shouting "move".

Adams said he ran out of the store and into the parking lot toward his vehicle.

The suspect again tried to carjack a vehicle and shot the driver when he did not comply, then approached a second auto and driver, Wohl wrote. "And as he tried to hijack a second vehicle, a citizen who was in the parking lot took his gun and shot the suspect". Susan Gregg, a spokeswoman at Harborview, said the man was in critical condition.

The local fire department has called the shooting a "mass-casualty incident", according to local media.

When she was able to move her auto, she came upon a woman who had run out of the store but couldn't find her vehicle. Wallner said as she ran out of the store she heard more shots.

Moments later she heard, "pop, pop, pop", and everyone froze, she said.
