Man almost dies after being bitten by beheaded rattlesnake

A Corpus Christi man is recovering after being bitten by a rattlesnake, despite the snake's head already being cut off.

According to KIII-TV in South Texas, Jennifer Sutcliffe and her husband were out doing yard work near Corpus Christi when they spotted a four-foot rattlesnake on their property. Sutcliffe told KIII-TV her husband quickly took his shovel and severed the snake's head from its body but moments later when he bent down to throw it away, the severed head bit him. "He had to rip it off".

"There's about 6,000 to 8,000 snake bites per year in the country [United States of America] and 10 or 12 people die", Halpert said. Once there, doctors administered massive amounts of the antivenom CroFab, but for the first 24 hours, they still weren't sure whether or not he'd make it.
