An exhilarating trapeze act nearly turned deadly on America's Got Talent Tuesday night after a husband and wife duo attempted to perform a blindfolded free-fall trick.

During the Judge Cuts round, Mary Ellen Wolfe-Nielsen and Tyce Nielsen, a married couple working as Duo Transcend, performed a gravity-defying acrobatics that went smoothly until she slipped through his grip and fell to the floor below!

What's even more horrifying is that the couple's 2-year-old son, Jaxx, was watching from the audience with his grandmother.

But Mary had landed on the safety mat and while very sore, was not badly injured.

During the second part of the act, Tyce, who suffers from a progressive eye disease called keratoconus, blindfolded himself and attempted to catch his wife after a flip. He missed grabbing her ankle and she went careening toward the floor - headfirst.

The gasping audience members and judges reacted in shock - but Mary quickly got back up again, indicating she was not hurt.

Tyce, hanging by his feet in mid-air, was lowered and then jumped to the ground, giving his wife a kiss.

The embarrassed couple asked if they could do a repeat performance to make up for their slip-up.

"No, it's fine!" yelled Mel B.

America's Got Talent is full of exhilarating, daredevil-style stunts, which usually end with the audience being left in awe of how the acts managed to pull them off.

Simon Cowell was sympathetic, noting, "I don't think there's ever been a singer on any of our competitions who's been note-perfect". It certainly doesn't make them not fantastic. Although the consequences of this are slightly worse than falling off-key, whereas you almost broke your neck.
