And HBO's "Barry" made a significant mark on the comedy voting, where Donald Glover's "Atlanta" led the way, in a field thrown wide open by the absence of three-time champ "Veep" from this year's list of contenders.

Rhys and Brown will be up against Brown's castmate Milo Ventimiglia, along with Jason Bateman for "Ozark" and Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright for "Westworld". It ultimately won eight statues, including all of the aforementioned categories.

Lead actress drama takes last year's victor Elisabeth Moss for "The Handmaid's Tale" with Claire Foy, "The Crown"; Tatiana Maslany, "Orphan Black"; Sandra Oh, "Killing Eve"; Keri Russell, "The Americans"; and Evan Rachel Wood for "Westworld".

The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC. It's a steep fall-off from there, although 13 networks or services garnered 10 or more nominations, reflecting the breadth of competition that now characterizes the Emmy race in the age of "peak TV".

This year's ceremony, broadcast from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater, will be hosted by Saturday Night Live's Michael Che and Colin Jost.
