Queen Elizabeth II honored the RAF with the presentation of a new Queen's Colour at a ceremony on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth presided over a ceremony honoring the RAF, and said "tenacity, skill and gallantry" had always been the hallmarks of the service.

Up to 100 aircraft will fly above the county on their way to a flypast over Buckingham Palace to celebrate the RAF's 100th birthday.

He said: "We are sending a bit of a strategic message.we remain one of world's leading air forces, deployed on operations in 23 countries, able to project that power and influence wherever it is required in the world".

The nine-minute display featured planes from Spitfires to the newest F-35 stealth fighters and included 22 Typhoon jets flying in formation to spell out the number 100.

And despite still being on maternity leave, after giving birth to Prince Louis only 11 weeks ago, it is understood that Kate felt it was important to attend Tuesday's celebrations.
