China Bans "Christopher Robin" Due To Pooh’s Resemblance To Its President

Chinese authorities do not provide reasons to Hollywood studios when they reject their movies, the source said.

No reason has been given for the film's denial, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, it is because of China's censorship of Winnie the Pooh images that started a year ago.

The trend first started in 2013 when Jinping visited the United States and an image of him walking alongside then American president Barack Obama was likened to one featuring Pooh and Tigger, according to The Guardian.

Rumours tend to suggest that the real motive behind blocking images of Winnie the Pooh is avoid comparisons between Winnie the Pooh and the Chinese president, Xi Jinping.

Global Risks Insights touted the 2015 picture showing President Jinping in a motorcade alongside an image of Pooh as "China's most censored photo". Disney will open "Ant-Man and The Wasp" in China on August 24.

Both appear in McGregor's new movie, Christopher Robin, which was released in North America on Friday Aug 3.

The new film tells the story of a now middle-aged Christopher Robin, whose mundane life takes a turn when he is unexpectedly reunited with the Hundred Acre Wood's Winnie-the-Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and other animals from his childhood.
