Del Potro, Fognini advance to Mifel final

Italian Fabio Fognini stunned Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday to win the Abierto de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex in Los Cabos.

Del Potro won for the third straight night in the hard-court event after a rest break following a five-set loss to Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Many wondered whether the British No.2 Norrie was going to be able to live with the Italian in the baseline exchanges, and from the beginning, Norrie was doing a good job of it, working his left-handed forehand to perfection and believing in his game, but Fognini really elevated his level in the 3rd game, where he broke for the first time with a sequence of attractive defensive points, which unsettled Norrie from the baseline.
