Rick Gates, the former business partner of Paul Manafort, testified Tuesday that he helped Manafort hide payments from offshore accounts.

For the last two days in court, Gates has testified that he and Manafort committed bank and tax fraud together.

Rick Gates clarified various aspects of the government's case against his former boss Paul Manafort during extensive direct testimony on Tuesday.

The names on those accounts belonged to the four individuals who created them.

The transfers would usually occur when Manafort made requests for Gates to initiate them-often through a list of to-be-sent wire transfers provided by Manafort to Gates via email.

Manafort's attorney, Kevin Downing, suggested there was a side to Gates few had seen.

Downing peppered gates with questions about what the defense dubbed "the secret life of Rick Gates". This was a way to decrease Manafort's taxable income, added Gates, who did not report the money to Manafort's book-keeper or accountants.

It is understood that the hard relationship between Mourinho and his 25-year-old star has become tense once again, however.

"Yes, this is approved", Manafort responded. Manafort would ask him to make payments to various vendors or bank accounts in the US and overseas. This time, however, Manafort himself provided Gates the template to be used for vendor payments, according to the witness.

Gates said he did, but the defence lawyer wasn't satisfied. And prosecutors flashed a note from a meeting Manafort and Gates had in 2013, showing that an unnamed Trump may have received Manafort's Yankees tickets.

Gates said he and Manafort turned to a Cypriot lawyer, whom he referred to in court as "Dr K", who set up bank accounts and shell companies on Manafort's behalf and "handled everything". Gates said he was responsible for collecting all relevant documents for the loan applications.

In October 2016, for instance, Gates sent Manafort DMP's profit and loss statement (P&L) from January 1 through June 30 of that year, emails introduced in court Tuesday show. Documents in word-processing applications can be edited.

In addition, Gates has admitted to other criminal conduct.

The new document showed a net profit of more than $3 million - a $3.6 million shift.

"After all the lies you've told and fraud you've committed, you expect this jury to believe you?" He agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors and has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and lying to the FBI.

In his second day of testifying against his former boss, Mr Gates said at the time he worked on President Trump's election campaign, his salary was paid by savings and investments from Mr Manafort.

The goal of the letter was to coax the Swiss company into investing in Brown's project as well.

Sometimes, however, Gates said he would perform the same task without Manafort's direction or knowledge in order to embezzle funds from his employer.

Gates' voice remained steady and calm throughout his roughy six hours of testimony Tuesday.

He criticized Manafort for choosing to go to trial instead of owning up to their alleged financial deceit. "Mr. Manafort had the same path. I'm here", Gates said from the witness chair.

Manafort, seated at the defence table, stared intently at Gates while his defence attorney hammered him with aggressive questions, but his former business partner carefully avoided his gaze.

Andres followed up: "Did Mr Manafort know?" "Because on the one hand, Gates stole money from him, but on the other hand he clearly learned everything that Manafort taught him". Gates offered that he had been the recipient of an "unauthorized transaction".

"When did you start providing false and misleading information to the special counsel's office?" the defence counsel asked bluntly.

"What difference does it make?"

"I'm here. I'm trying to change", he said. "I made a mistake".
