In the 1980s, the overshoot day fell in November, shifting back to October by 1993 and to September just after the millennium. Its objective is to highlight the impact of humanity on Earth.
Canada's resource use is one of the highest in the world - if we had a national Earth Overshoot Day, it would fall on March 18.

Historically, Earth Overshoot Day moves further from December 31 every year, which means every year we get closer to the point where we face a real crisis.
