Turnbull Dutton Leadership Vote


After his abortive attempt to snatch the leadership of the Liberal Party, it was pretty clear that Peter Dutton's position in Malcolm Turnbull's cabinet was, shall we say, untenable.

Turnbull threw all leadership positions in the Liberal Party open early Tuesday, inviting challengers to nominate themselves for party leader.

Turnbull won the vote 48 to 35.

But Turnbull ousted Abbott as prime minister in 2015 in a leadership ballot of government lawmakers concerned by the government's poor opinion polling.

But this morning it is being reported that the Home Affairs Minister was last night telling his supporters he was still undecided on challenging Mr Turnbull.

"We can win next year if we become united and stick with Mr Turnbull", Mr Pyne said.

However, those who didn't support it threatened to "cross the floor" - that is, vote against it in Parliament.

But the Prime Minister faces ongoing leadership pressure, with his authority significantly diminished by the capitulation to Tony Abbott and his band of rebel MPs.

Mr Abbott said: 'It's no way to run a government, making absolute commitments on Tuesday and breaking them on Friday'.
