Champion mare Winx has scooped up the national record of 26 consecutive wins with the champ giving her rivals windburn in the blustery conditions at Royal Randwick.

Winx's record-breaking win came in the race renamed in her honour - the group 1 Winx Stakes (formerly the Warwick Stakes) over 1400m at Randwick.

Winx defeated Invictus Prince and D'Argento as trainer Chris Waller sets his sights on winning a fourth Cox Plate with the champion racemare.

Four months after winning the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at the same racecourse, the bay mare's triumphant return to the track left Waller choking back tears.

Shambolic United self-destruct in 3-2 loss at Brighton
United have conceded four goals in their opening two games of the season - it took them nine to let in that many last season. Brighton's Murray said their 3-1 home win over United last season gave them confidence that could spring another surprise.

Connections were nearly lost for words at what was Winx's first start since her resounding win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in mid-April.

Winx has raced into history, and fans across the country are in awe.

"Everything about this horse is phenomenal", she said.

"I've just been looking for signs of her losing that dominance", Waller said. "Haven't seen one ounce of it".

Messi makes Liga history with Barcelona's 6,000th goal
It means that 6.5% of the goals by Barcelona in their history have been scored by the 31 year old. Atletico Madrid - last season's runner-up - visits Valencia on Monday.

The shared tension felt in Winx's inner circle only builds ahead of each of her starts.

"I heard it and I'm sure she heard it because when the crowd erupted at the 250m mark she just dropped and went", Jockey Hugh Bowman told Seven Network following the race.

Black Caviar retired after hitting the quarter-century but punters will be hoping first for a Winx win, and then for many more.
