Border Patrol agent charged with murdering 4 women

Authorities say a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent in Texas has been arrested on suspicion of having killed four women and abducted a fifth.

Ortiz reportedly fled from state troopers before being arrested in the parking lot of a Laredo hotel.

Webb County District Attorney Isidro Alaniz said in a tweet that Juan David Ortiz, 35, an intel supervisor for the Border Patrol, had been charged with four counts of murder as well as aggravated assault and unlawful restraint.

The bodies of two women were found earlier in the week, and another two were found early Saturday morning. The prosecutor says he feels comfortable describing Ortiz as a serial killer. Nationalities of the others are not yet known. Alaniz said two of them were US citizens but the nationalities of the other two were not yet known.

Ortiz is a 10-year veteran of the Webb County Border Patrol.

According to the District Attorney all of the women were prostitutes who were allegedly picked up by Ortiz.
