Cody Wilson, 3D-Printed Gun Pioneer, Arrested in Taiwan - Hit & Run

Wilson and Defense Distributed, the company he helped found, have been the subject of an ongoing court battle over whether the company should be legally allowed to widely disseminate the blueprints for untraceable, 3D-printed weapons online.

Taiwan's National Immigration Agency and Criminal Investigation Bureau confirmed to CBS News Friday that Wilson had been arrested. As he no longer has a legal travel document, Taiwanese police now have the authority to apprehend Wilson and deport him back to the U.S., where U.S. Marshals would take him into custody. The National Immigration Agency is now urging the American Institute in Taiwan to issue a valid travel document for Mr Wilson, so he can be deported back to the US accordingly.

According to BuzzFeed News, Wilson had fled the US for Taiwan after the alleged victim's friend tipped him off to the police investigation into the incident, and had reportedly signed a six-month contract for an apartment one day prior to his arrest.

Austin police have said Wilson flew to Taiwan earlier this month after a friend told him officers were investigating an allegation by a 16-year-old girl who said she was paid $500 to have sex with him at a hotel in the Texas capital. When his arrest warrant became public almost two weeks later, the Austin Police Department revealed that Wilson had skipped his return flight to the U.S. after they believe the man received a tip about the allegations.

Per the affidavit, Wilson, 30, had sex with the girl in August at a local hotel, after which he paid her $500. A counselor for the teenager reported the accusation to Austin police a week later, according to the affidavit. The two allegedly met on, authorities said. He later dropped her off at a Whataburger restaurant, she told authorities.

Brett Kavanaugh accuser offers to testify to Senate
Thursday's development came on the eve of a Republican-set deadline for Prof Ford to decide whether she would give evidence. Ford's legal team has said she strongly prefers that her allegations are fully investigated before she testifies.

Police said they reviewed hotel surveillance footage "showing the victim and Wilson exiting an elevator onto the seventh floor". The crime is a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The files could previously be downloaded for free, but a federal judge issued a nationwide injunction last month that blocked the posting of the blueprints online.
